JAMMU, Feb 22: All J&K Oil Tanker Drivers and Cleaners’ Union held a protest demonstration in front of the Oil Depots of IOCL, HPCL and BPCL here today against the alleged corrupt practices adopted by the RTO/ARTO offices in the State.
A large number of drivers and cleaners of Oil Tankers this morning assembled in front of three Oil Depots of IOCL, HPCL and BPCL and held protest demonstrations under the leadership of president of the Union, Khair-u-Din Wani and thus disrupted the loading work from 6 am to 10 am.
They also burnt the effigy of State Transport Commissioner for failing to check corrupt practices adopted by the officials of RTO/ARTO offices of the State.
The protestors alleged that the driving licenses of the drivers required to be endorsed for carrying the hazardous goods from the offices of the concerned RTO/ARTO’s for a prescribed fee of Rs 50 but the offices of RTO/ARTOs except RTO office Jammu, illegally overcharge the drivers upto Rs 3000 per license per year.
We have time and again requested the Transport Commissioner through letters to stop this malpractice of looting the poor and hapless drivers by the officials of Transport Department, but no heed was being paid to our repeated requests, they regretted and threatened to stop the supply of the petroleum products to the whole of the State any time, if their demand was not conceded at the earliest.
