JAMMU, Mar 21: The Election Commission of India has temporarily restrained all factions of the Jammu & Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) from using the party name and its symbol ‘Bicycle’.
An interim order in this regard has been issued by the Election Commission to cover the purpose of the current General Elections and to continue till the final determination of the dispute in the matter.
As per the order, a copy of which is in possession of the Excelsior, neither of the groups shall be permitted to use the name of Jammu & Kashmir National Panthers Party as well as the symbol `Bicycle’, reserved for the party.
“In case, any of the group (s) is desirous to contest the General Election to the House of the People- 2024, the group may approach the Commission,” read the order, signed by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu.
Pertinent to mention that the dispute between Vilakshan Singh and Harsh Dev Singh (both nephews of Late Prof Bhim Singh) for exclusive use of the party name (JKNPP) and the election symbol (Bicycle) is pending before the Election Commission of India.
