KATRA, Mar 22: As a manifestation of its zeal to reach out to the society through immense clinical acumen, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi (SMVD) Narayana Superspecialty Hospital performed cochlear implant surgeries of 6 more children, transiting the broods to world of hearing and listening.
Among others, the surgery was done on a 2.5-year-old child who underwent a bilateral procedure (both ear). Dr Rohan Gupta (Consultant ENT), who performed the surgeries, under the guidance of Dr Sunil Kotwal, shared that sustained awareness campaigns launched by Hospital in various areas of the region were a prelude to the actual performance of cochlear surgeries. He added that 7 surgeries performed on the instant occasion synchronized with World Hearing day (3rd March) and were completely successful in terms of envisaged outcome.
“With these surgeries performed in March 2024, the SMVD Narayana Hospital has landed in the elite territory of few selected Hospitals of the Country who have achieved this rare milestone,” stated Mathvan (Facility Director of Hospital). He said this achievement is a result of tremendous over the years support of the Shrine Board (29 of the 50 surgeries including 6 instant surgeries in reference have been sponsored by the Board). Besides, he said, these are also an indicative of high level clinical expertise and patient care, for which the Hospital is known in the entire region.
Dr Rohan Gupta also shared that despite lack of awareness, misconception and other challenges specifically associated with our region, in the last 6 months alone, as many as 4 bilateral CI surgeries have been performed by him (a few of which posed lot of clinical challenges).
Dr Gopal Sharma (CAO of the Hospital) said that the CEO Shrine Board has always been supportive of any philanthropic proposals projected to him and has directed several new steps in this regard in the recent past.
