IRCS provides free spectacles to needy children

JAMMU, Mar 22: In a compassionate outreach to enhance the well-being of underprivileged children, the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), J&K today provided free spectacles to needy children.
This initiative, led by the general secretary of IRCS Rohit Khajuria, was aimed to address vision impairments among children visiting the Red Cross dispensaries for eye check-ups. Khajuria stated that vision problems can severely impact a child’s life, limiting their educational opportunities and affecting their confidence. He said by providing free spectacles, they aim to bring a positive change in the lives of these children, giving them the gift of clear vision and the hope for a brighter future.
Meanwhile, an eight-day First-Aid Training Programme organized by IRCS J&K for the commercial vehicle drivers and for the youth of the society at Red Cross Bhawan, Kachi Chawni (Jammu), concluded today. During the programme, different topics were covered like techniques of Disaster Management during Earthquakes, Fires, Floods, etc. Emergency technique of handling bleeding patient, fracture/accident victims was also emphasized.
Highlights of the programme were how to resuscitate a patient of fainting and cardiac arrest. Emphasis was laid on the Management of injuries, fracture, burns, control of bleeding, practical demonstrations of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and Choking.
The practical and theoretical lectures were delivered by Dr Kavita Nijhon Verma and Dr Manpreet Kaur (Medical Officers) assisted by Ravi Kant Magotra (Supervisor Pharmacist), Naziya Banoo (FMPHW) and Joginder Kumar (Pharmacist). Along with that a special lecture on drug de-addiction was also organized and free eye check-up of the participants was done.
Later in the day, students of Government Women College, Parade (Jammu) visited Red Cross Bhawan to get the understanding of the humanitarian efforts and core activities that underpin the Red Cross’s mission worldwide.
The students were given a comprehensive overview of the Red Cross’s pivotal roles in disaster response, health and safety services, support for vulnerable communities, promotion of international humanitarian law and community service initiatives. The awareness was given by Vironica Marwah (Field Officer, IRCS-J&K).
