JAMMU, Feb 23: Historic Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex, Poonch Border and Udhampur reverberated with musical note of Soporis at SaMaPa Aalap 2014.
The concert at the Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex came as a real musical treat to the Jammu music connoisseurs with Pandit Sopori joined by his son Abhay Rustum Sopori in a rare and unique duet. The programme also featured Sufi renditions by the young Sufi Diva and songstress Ragini Rainu. The concert was in line with promotion of art and culture and also the heritage monuments of the Jammu region by the Tourism Department, Jammu.
Shantmanu, Divisional Commissioner Jammu was the chief guest of the occasion. Soujanya Sharma, Director Tourism Jammu was also present and welcomed the guest and the artists.
The concert began with an enthralling Sufi vocal recital by the daughter of the soil Ragini Rainu. She presented various Urdu, Persian and Punjabi qualams and traditional compositions. Ragini was accompanied by Vijay Anand on Tabla, Kamal Sharma on Dholak, Damodar Lal Ghose on Harmonium and Jagmeet Singh on the Guitar. This was followed by father-son duet recital. Pt Sopori and Abhay commenced the recital in Raga Gawati with Aalap, Jod – Jhalla followed by various Bandishes, Gats and Tarana compositions in Raga Gawati. Pandit Sopori and Abhay were accompanied by Ustad Akram Khan on Tabla, one of India’s finest Tabla players.
Concerts were also held at Poonch border area and Udampur as part of SaMaPa Aalap 2014, which will conclude tomorrow with the Santoor recital by Pt Bhajan Sopori at Jodhamal Public School at 11:00 am. The concert has again been kept open for the general public while more than 1000 students are expected to attend the grand finale of this year’s 9th SaMaPa Aalap edition.
