JAMMU, Mar 24: Transport Commissioner Rajinder Singh Tara undertook a comprehensive tour of Kashmir Division to take stock of functioning Motor Vehicles Department. He had a day-long detailed review meeting with all the district officers of Kashmir division.
The meeting was attended by the Additional Transport Commissioner, Aijaz Ahmad Saraf and RTO Kashmir, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari. All the important issues pertaining to Motor Vehicles Department were discussed in the meeting and the functioning of the Department was reviewed.
During the course of review meeting, all the ARTOs were impressed to ensure prompt delivery services in time bound manner to facilitate the general public. While emphasizing on the need to bring efficiency and transparency in working of the department, the Transport Commissioner stressed on the importance of online/ faceless IT enabled services in the department. He emphasized on the pivotal role of the transport sector in enhancing the quality of life for every citizen and the responsibility of Transport Department in ensuring a safe, efficient and reliable transportation system for all.
The Commissioner stated that the road safety remains a cornerstone of the agenda of Transport Department and stressed on the efforts to implement stringent measures aimed at preventing accidents and educating drivers and pedestrians regularly and emphasized that the Safety Audit of School buses is conducted by all ARTOs in their respective districts. It was also directed that transport facilities are provided to the public in all areas especially to people living in remote areas.
During his tour, the visiting officer took stock of works of the under construction buildings of RTO and Transport Commissioner at Bemina Baramulla and emphasized on the completion of pending finishing works and the land development in the office complex. He urged the pending works are of urgent nature and shall be executed during the ensuing fiscal year. The Commissioner appreciated the urgent need to have adequate furniture for efficient functioning of the new office complexes and the need expansion and modernization of IT infrastructure in the new buildings.
While expressing satisfaction on the shifting to the new RTO office, the Transport Commissioner stressed that the message regarding online & faceless services are disseminated among the general masses in order to reduce the footfall in RTO/ARTO Offices.
During the visit the Transport Commissioner inspected ARTO Baramulla, Budgam and Ganderbal and took stock of the functioning of office to oversee the delivery system of services being provided by the department. RTO Kashmir exhorted that a separate IDTR & ICC should be sanctioned for Kashmir Division, in view of its peculiar geography to which the Commissioner assured that a proposal in this regard shall be submitted to Government. Later, the Transport Commissioner also visited Sonamarg to see feasibility of relocation of the Weigh Bridge en-route Kashmir-Leh National Highway.
