KARGIL, Mar 29: The community of Kargil mourns the passing of a beloved figure, Hojjat ul Islam Walmuslimeen Sheikh Mohammad Ibrahim Khalili, whose life was dedicated to scholarship, service, and spiritual guidance.
Sheikh Khalili, aged 94, departed this world after a brief illness, leaving behind an indelible legacy of piety and compassion. Born in 1930 in the picturesque village of Karith in Kargil, Sheikh Khalili embarked on a journey of profound spiritual growth at the tender age of 21.
Venturing to Najaf Al Ashraf, he pursued advanced Islamic studies for 25 years under the mentorship of esteemed scholars such as Ayatollah Abul Qasim Al Mossavi Al Khoei, Ayatollah Khomeini, and Ayatollah Mohsin Hakeem. Imbued with wisdom and fortified by faith, he returned to his homeland in 1974 to bestow the fruits of his knowledge upon his people.

He held leadership roles within the Anjuman Imam Khomeini Shakar Chiktan Block and contributed significantly to the religious and educational landscape of Leh district. His commitment to Islamic service extended to Drass, where he spent 8 years under Jamiat ul Ulama Isna Asharia Kargil. Later, he served as a Mudarris at Hawza e Elmiyah Isna Asharia Kargil for 23 years and as Mutawalli for 6 years.
The news of Sheikh Khalili’s passing has reverberated throughout the region, eliciting an outpouring of grief and tributes from all walks of life. Thousands of mourners participated in the funeral procession and prayer services.
Sheikh Khalili’s Janaza was brought to the Isna Asharia Campus amidst a sombre procession, with thousands of mourners paying their final respects. Later, thousands more gathered for the funeral prayer (Nimaz e Janaza), led by president Jamiat ul Ulama Isna Asharia Kargil, Sheikh Nazir Mehdi Mohammadi.
The funeral procession (Tashea’ Janaza) later took Sheikh Khalili to his native village, where he was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard.
Sheikh Mohammad Ibrahim Khalili is survived by his sons Murtaza Khalili and Sheikh Mohammad Khalil.
