JAMMU, Mar 31: The Easter was celebrated joyfully at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Prem Nagar with pomp and fervour here today.
On the occasion, Rev. Fr. Kuriakose, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Suhail Joseph, the Asst. Parish Priest were also present.
The Easter vigil service began with the blessing of a new fire, lighting of the Paschal Candle from the new fire and all the faithful went in procession carrying the candles in their hands.
Rev. Fr. Kuriakose was the main celebrant of the Holy Mass who in his sermon emphasized the readings of the day.
He said that ultimately, Jesus died and rose to give us his spirit to comfort us in all things. We are not alone. When we experience sadness, we are invited to feel it fully, acknowledge our need, and move towards God for comfort. The gospel is good news for our sadness. As we experience this, we are able to share the good news with others who are in need of comfort.
He told the faithful to joyfully proclaim the good news that “Christ is truly risen”, and wished all a blessed and holy Easter.
Finally he thanked all the well-wishers and thereafter the gathering came to an end.
In Christian tradition, the Resurrection represents Christ’s victory over death and this night was the mother of all nights. All Christians have prepared themselves for 40 days of lent for this night. In the past three days they have accompanied the Lord in his passion and death.
And as one family the faithful have gathered at St. Peter’s Catholic Church to celebrate his resurrection. This was the climax of the history of redemption.
The liturgy of Easter vigil night has four parts, Liturgy of the Light, Liturgy of the Word, Liturgy of Blessing of Water and Liturgy of the Eucharist in which all the faithful enthusiastically participated and received the blessing from the risen Christ.
