KATHUA, Feb 25: Minister of State for Fisheries, Cooperatives, Finance and Planning Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma, today laid foundation stone of three additional class rooms at Government Middle School Baddu.
Estimated to involve a cost of Rs. 7.45 lakh, the additional accommodation is being provided to the school under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
After laying foundation stone Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma convened a public meeting to listen to the grievances and demands of the people.
The grievances and demands put forth by representatives of the people were mostly related to the drinking water, power, road connectivity, shortage of ration, inadequate staff in schools, old age pension.
The Minister listened to the demands/grievances of the people patiently and assured their redressal on priority basis.
He said that Government, under a comprehensive plan, has initiated steps to provide Education and Healthcare facilities in isolated and hilly areas of the state.
He added that four new medical colleges proposed for the state and proposal of recruitment of the doctors which is at its final stage will boost the medical facilities in the state.
Dr Sharma said that new administrative units will also pave the way for development of the state in the long run.
Listing local development activities, the Minister said that over ninety five percent of the Uchhapind panchayat has been electrified besides getting road access, drinking water facilities. He said that Government will take up seventy four roads in the Kathua district this year to which final nod will be given at the earliest.
Later, Minister distributed 14 cheques amounting to Rs. 2.30 lakh under cluster project of sericulture for the construction of silk worms rearing sheds. Minister also distributed 20 cheques of Rs.2000 each to the beneficiaries under the widow pension scheme.
