JKTPO organises Organic Certification program for Basmati growers

Basmati producers from Suchetgarh decision during a programme organised in Jammu on Tuesday.

JAMMU, Apr 2: With an aim to promote One District, One Product (ODOPP) products in Jammu and Kashmir and to increase their export potential, an Organic Certification program for Basmati growers was organised here today.
The programme was organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Trade Promotion Organisation (JKTPO) in collaboration with Invest India (One District One Product) team, DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
The workshop aimed to provide certification and training to farmers already engaged in producing organic Basmati, lacking the necessary certification for their product’s authenticity.
This initiative is part of JKTPO’s mandate to promote ODOP products in Jammu and Kashmir and to increase awareness among Basmati growing farmers.
The workshop stressed the importance of enhancing organic Basmati production in the region to meet market demands, upgrading packaging to meet global standards, which is expected to elevate demand and contribute to the increased income of farmers.
The programme was attended by over 110 Basmati producers from Suchetgarh region of Jammu district, and more farmers are expected to come under organic certification.
On spot registration for Organic Certificate for Basmati was done for 60+ Basmati growers.
The representatives from the Agriculture Department, government officials, Basmati growers, progressive farmers, members of FPOs, a representative from Invest India, JKTPO, and the certifying agency Aditi Organic Certifications Pvt Ltd Bangalore attended the programme.
