JAMMU, Apr 4: A recent surgical procedure at Maxxlyfe Hospital, Sunjuwan Road, near Bathindi Morh in Jammu, showcased the advancement of medical care, particularly in the field of laparoscopic surgery.
Abishek Gupta, a 36-year-old patient from Udhampur, had a large hydatid cyst of the spleen (greater than 70%) as reported in the CT scan abdomen. The patient consulted various surgeons in Udhampur and Jammu and was advised conventional open surgery by a large incision over the abdomen.
The patient finally approached eminent laparoscopic surgeon Dr Rajive Gupta at his clinic located in Channi Himmat, Jammu. Dr Gupta took the challenge of operating the patient by laparoscopic method and scheduled his operation at Maxxlyfe Hospital.
Dr Gupta successfully removed the spleen and cyst by making just 4 key holes of 5 to 10 mm size. The operation, lasting approximately two hours, was performed yesterday evening with minimal blood loss and without the need for a blood transfusion.
The procedure was performed under general anesthesia that was administered by Dr Vishal and operation was assisted by a dedicated team of competent laparoscopic surgeon, Dr Ritvik Resutra and senior cameraman, Joginder along with other OT staff including Dr Humera Iqbal, Sister Nusrat and Emran Jameer.
According to Dr Rajive Gupta, patient is doing well and was made to sit 4 hours after operation, take oral liquids after 8 hours and walk after 12 hours of surgery. As per Dr Gupta, the patient will be discharged the next day.

He further stated that the Hospital is fully equipped with all the modern equipment as well as paramedical and nursing staff.
