Governor, CM greet people on Mahashivratri

JAMMU, Feb 26: Governor, N. N. Vohra, has greeted the people on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri, which is celebrated by Kashmiri Pandits as Hairath.
In a message of felicitations, the Governor said that this festival symbolizes the values of piety, devotion, brotherhood and harmony, which are the hallmark of our glorious cultural ethos.
Wishing the people a happy Mahashivratri, the Governor prayed for peace, progress and prosperity in the State.
Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has also felicitated people on Mahashivratri wishing them happiness and prosperity.
In his Shivratri greetings message, the Chief Minister referred to the tradition of the people of Jammu and Kashmir of celebrating such occasions in amity and brotherhood. He expressed the hope that this trait will get further strengthened with the passage of time and all contribute positively in flourishing this speciality and characteristics of the State. He said observation and celebrations of holy occasions and festivals in collectively and togetherness adds colour to the joyful events.
Making a mention of the traditional manner in which Kashmiri Pandits observe and celebrate Shivratri, Omar Abdullah said the ‘Hairth’ is the important part of Kashmiryat and denotes historical bonds of love and amity between Hindus and Muslims. He extended Hairth Mubarak to the Kashmiri Pandits and wished them well-being.
The Chief Minister also prayed for peace and betterment of the State and the Country on the occasion.
Speaker Legislative Assembly, Mubarak Gul and CPI (M) leader today extended Maha Shivratri greetings to Kashmiri Pandits.
The two leaders wished that the day would bring peace and property to entire State so that all communities celebrate the festivals together in complete peace and harmony keeping their cultural heritage alive.
