LPG retailers booked

SRINAGAR, Feb 26: Legal Metrology Department has booked a retailer of cooking gas in South Kashmir for overcharging for a refill cylinder in South Kashmir.
A statement of the department said that the field executives under the supervision of Assistant Controller conducted the surprise inspection of the extension counter of LPG distributor in Zainapora, Shopian and adjoining areas.
“The retailer was charging Rs 470 to Rs 510 for a refill cylinder of the gas. During the inspection, 153 blue books/consumer books were seized from the counter and the consumers present there confirmed that the dealer is indulging in overcharging,” the statement said.
It said the person responsible for the offence was booked on the spot under section 33 of Standards of Weights and Measures (Enf) Act, 1997.
“The notice was served to the distributor of the oil company and the matter was brought in to the notice of Sales officer of the company. The person running the extension counter was held responsible for over-charging and a penalty of Rs 5000 was slapped on the defaulter,” it said.
Moreover, the department booked two LPG distributors in the city Srinagar for not using specified weighing scale while delivering cooking gas cylinders in the home deliveries.
