Bootlegger, 2 gamblers nabbed in Sopore

Srinagar, Apr 11: Police today arrested a bootlegger and two gamblers in north Kashmir’s Sopore, from whom 24 bottles of illicit liquor and stake money of Rs 2910 were recovered.
Authorities stated that a police party, led by SHO Sopore under the supervision of SDPO Sopore, intercepted a vehicle with registration number JK04B-959 at a checkpoint near the Shalpora graveyard.
“During the vehicle search, 24 bottles of illicit liquor were found in three bags,” police reported.
The accused driver, identified as Farooq Ahmad Ganie, son of Ghulam Nabi Ganie from Sangrampora Sopore, was arrested. A case, FIR No. 83/2024, under relevant sections of law, has been registered at Police Station Sopore, and an investigation initiated, police said.
Regarding the arrest of two gamblers, authorities mentioned that a police party from Police Station Tarzoo, led by SHO Tarzoo under the supervision of SDPO Sopore, apprehended two gamblers at Playground Tarzoo and seized stake money of Rs 2910 along with playing cards.
The individuals were identified as Ghulam Hassan Rather, son of Ghulam Nabi Rather from Kunder Mohalla Tarzoo, and Abdul Ahad Malla, son of Ghulam Mohammad Malla from Ningli Bala Sopore.
They have also been placed in custody at the police station, and a case, FIR No. 26/2024, under relevant sections of law, has been registered, police said.
