JAMMU, Apr 12: Score of OBC masses in Jammu under the banner of OBC Adhikar Tiranga Yatra staged a protest near Hari Singh Park, here today.
The representatives of All J&K OBC Mahasabha, All India backward Class Federation, All J&K OBC Welfare Forum and United Forum of presidents of different OBC castes and communities assembled this morning near Hari Singh Park and raised slogans in support of their demands including implementation of 27% reservation to OBCs in J&K Government services as well as Panchayati Raj System and Urban Local Bodies.
Addressing the media persons on the occasion, the protesting OBC masses said the Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has betrayed the OBCs identified by Mandal Commission having 42% population by implementing only 8% reservation in J&K Government services and inducting 13 communities out of 16 not identified by Mandal Commission in the lists of OBCs in J&K.
They alleged that reservation is only 8% to 65% of total J&K population whereas 10% reservation is to Pahari speaking population having only 10 lakh population. The protesting OBC masses stated that 13 communities out of 16 not identified by Mandal Commission have been inducted in the lists of OBCs in J&K under the political influence of BJP Government keeping in view the Lok Sabha elections.
“When 10% EWS reservation is meant for castes and communities other than Schedule Castes and OBCs, then why Justice (Retired) GD Sharma (Chairman of present Socially & Educationally Backward Classes Commission) has recommended non-Mandal Commission identified communities and upper castes for induction in J&K lists of OBCs,” they said and sought resignation of Chairman and members of J&K SEBC Commission for this discrimination with real OBCs under influence of BJP Government.
The protesting OBC masses demanded the J&K LG Manoj Sinha to appoint Chairman and members of J&K SEBC Commission from Mandal Commission identified OBC communities and implement OBC reservation in the coming elections of Panchayati Raj and Urban Local Bodies.
