MCC organises awareness programme on conservation of manuscripts

JAMMU, Apr 12 : To aware the students about the conservation of Manuscripts, an awareness programme organised by Manuscript Conservation Centre (MCC) was held here today.
The programme was organised in collaboration with Department of Library and Information Science, University of Jammu.
Dr. Meghna Dhar and Ashwin Kumar Kushwaha, Assistant Professor were the Guests of the Function.
The key resource person Dr. Suresh Abrol, Director, of MCC Jammu and his Team included Romesh Chander (Advisor), K K Kotwal (Technical Assistant and Conservator) and Kailash Kumar (Junior Conservator), Arvind Kotiyal (Senior Conservator) of Shashvat Art Gallery.
There were two sessions in the workshop.
In the first session, Director of the Gallery & Museum, Dr. Suresh Abrol made the students aware about the various aspects of the conservation of manuscripts and their importance.
He highlighted the various initiatives taken by the gallery related to the conservation of heritage and culture of the region.
The second technical session was headed by Arvind Kotiyal, Senior Conservator, K.K. Kotwal (Technical Assistant / Conservator and Kailash Kumar Junior Conservator.
During this session, they ably demonstrated to the students’ various methods for conservation of manuscripts by using acid free paper.
Around 35 students participated in the workshop.
