SRINAGAR, Apr 12: Police today booked two Over Ground Workers (OGWs) under Public Safety Act (PSA) in Sopore area of Baramulla district.
Police said Ikhlaq Imtiyaz Sheikh of Watergam, Rafiabad and Irfan Farooq Zargar of Soin Sadnar, Rafiabad were booked under PSA as part of the crackdown against anti-national elements.
“They were detained after getting formal detention orders from the competent authority and were subsequently lodged in District Jail Kupwara and District Jail Anantnag,” a police statement said.
“These individuals have a history of involvement in anti-national activities, as evidenced by multiple FIRs filed against them. This action has been taken to ensure that they don’t continue to engage in activities detrimental to the J&K’s security,” it added.
The PSA allows detention without charge or trial up to six months, and make difficult to obtain bail.
Meanwhile, Security forces today recovered a large quantity of war-like stores in the Lolab area of Kupwara district.
Security forces including Army, Police and BSF on receipt of specific information launched a search operation in Gangbugh Sogam, during which a cache of war-like stores were recovered.
An official said that the Pakistan based handlers were planning to use the now recovered (war-like) stores to carry out adverse activities in the region.
The successful conduct of the operation, the official said, has dealt a major blow to the nefarious designs of Pakistan based militant groups.
The recovered items include six UBGLs, 13 5 UBGL grenades, hand grenades, 23 Chinese hand grenades, nine 40 MM MGL rounds, one pistol, nine pistol magazines, 65 pistol rounds, one AK-47 rifle, five AK- magazines, 1135 AK rounds, one IED, 175 pika rounds, two binoculars, one night vision, one blanket and one poncho.
