JAMMU, Mar 2:Miffed over alleged dictatorial attitude of Vice Chancellor of University of Jammu, Students Scholars Joint Action Committee (SSJAC) today staged protest demonstration outside main gate of JU campus.
Shouting slogans, the protesting students were demanding immediate removal of Prof M P S Ishar as the VC. They also torched an effigy of the JU administration and sought intervention of Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to save prestige of the university.
Addressing the protesters, SSJAC member Virender Singh Chib castigated the dictatorial attitude of the Vice Chancellor, who was suppressing the democratic rights of students by denying them admission on flimsy grounds.
“It is fundamental right of every student to pursue studies but VC Mohan Pal Singh Ishar and some of his associates have made Jammu University as their personal fiefdom. Anticipating exposure of various scams in JU and misdeeds of VC and his goons, he is not ready to tolerate interference of any scholar other than his trusted lieutenants”, Chib said.
SSJC members Deepak Gupta, Mandeep, Varun Amit, Akash, Rohit, Gourav, Arief, Rajesh, Koshal and Nishant Verma appealed the entire student community to get united against the dictatorial attitude of VC for getting the JU saved.
Meanwhile, former vice president of NSUI, Abhishek Kousal, also extended full support to SSJAC members and their demand.
The protesters further rued that at one hand new courses were being introduced which was a welcoming step but on the other hand, VC was mulling to close some departments. “VC is mulling to merge Department of Statistics and Regional Studies Center in Political Science Department while there are also reports that VC has planned to close Buddhist Studies Department, which is totally undemocratic”, they said, adding that they would leave no stone unturned to save the JU from the dictatorial clutches of Vice Chancellor MPS Ishar.
