JAMMU, Apr 21: Mahavir Jayanti, also known as Mahavir Janam Kalyanak, was observed today as it marked the 2622nd birth anniversary of the 24th and the last Tirthankara (enlightened teacher) of the Jainism.
Regarded as one of the holiest and most accomplished missionaries of peace and harmony who preached a vision of redemption and peaceful co-existence, Mahavir’s ideas continue to inspire a large number of followers.
Satyaparkash Maharaj and Samkit Muni in their discourse said that Bhagwan Mahavir gave a five-point principle for all believers to follow “Ahimsa,” “Asteya,” “Brahmcharya,” “Satya,” and “Aparigraha.”
They said Jainism takes these oaths in order to live in unity and tranquillity.
“His (Mahavir’s) observations were focussed on empirical interpretations of existence and life’s underlying message,” they said.
