JAMMU, Mar 3: The Department of Physics and Electronics, University of Jammu, organized “National Seminar on X-ray Crystallography and its Relevance to Crystal Engineering and Drug Design”.
The seminar was inaugurated by Professor M P S Ishar, the Vice-Chancellor JU, who dwelled upon the subject matter of the seminar by making correlations of the subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences. He further said that X-ray Crystallography and crytsal engineering find relevant application in drug design.
Professor Rajni Kant, convener of the seminar, described the relevance of such interactive meetings which are extremely useful for motivating the young students at their Master’s level. He stressed upon the student community to take up research as a career as the fundamental research in any scientific discipline is very essential for the growth of science.
The seminar was addressed by various invited speakers, who included  Professor M N Ponnuswamy,  emeritus-Scientist, Dept of Crystallography and Biophysics, University of Madras, Professor Punit Kour, HoD  Biophysics, AIIMS, New Delhi, Prof  V G Puranik, Scientist-G, National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, Professor Deepak Chopra, IISER, Bhopal and Dr  Kamni Pathania, SMVDU.
All the invited speakers commented upon the theme of crystal engineering and drug design, based on the kind of research they are doing in the context of national and international status.
Six oral presentations were also made by Kamini Kapoor, Dalbir Kour, Preetika Sharma, Kuldeep Singh, Ahsan Elahi, Sumati Anthal, research scholars of the department.
Professor Vivek Gupta, co-convenor of the seminar, while winding up the proceedings, commented on the understanding of basics and fundamental related to the science of crystals.
