Field trip to DIHAR LOFF organised

Leh, Apr 23: The Department of Zoology of Eliezer Joldan Memorial College, Leh organised a one-day field trip to the Defense Institute of High-Altitude Research (DIHAR) and Ladakh Organic Farmers Foundation Farm (LOFF) at Chuchot Shamma.

The trip aimed to provide practical insights into poultry and cattle breeds, as well as hands-on experience in Rainbow trout culture for the 6th semester students of Batch 2021. Two faculty members, Assistant Professors Dr. Nasima Bano and Gul Jabin, accompanied the students.

The students explored the Recirculatory Aquaculture System (RAS) hatching technology based on Rainbow trout at LOFF, marking the pioneering private sector introducing the culture practices in India, spearheaded by a farmer and Entrepreneur Zabir Ahmad.

He explained the basic requirements for trout spawning which can be further used for various purposes.

The RAS hatching technology is the first time successfully being done in Ladakh in the private sector in collaboration with ICAR-DCFR, Bhimtal. He explained how this technology can be implemented by entrepreneurs for various work in the fishery and explained to students about various opportunities related to fishery such as Trout culture, aqua garden, compost in aerobic conditions, Aromatic lab and more.
