Wheat crop burnt to ashes, heavy loss to farmers

KATHUA, Apr 25: Standing wheat crop at village Prithi Chack in Kathua district was burnt to ashes in a devastating fire today. The fire suddenly broke out in the field of Nanak Chand and Pritam Chand of Prithi Chack when they were busy in harvesting the wheat crop in nearby field. As they came to know about fire they ran towards the field and villagers also helped them to control the fire. But till then standing wheat crop in nine Kanals of land was burnt to ashes.
The affected farmer Pritam Chand and Nanak Chand said that they faced huge loss of crop. But the timely support of local people helped in controlling the fire to spread in nearby other wheat fields. They appealed the Government to pay compensation to them as they lost the whole crop. The villagers also appealed the administration to make arrangements of the fire tender in advance in village area to secure the crops from fire incidents.
