2.76 lakh cases pending in J&K courts

JAMMU, Mar 4: A total 2,76,458 cases were pending in the J&K High Court and in other Subordinate courts in the State.
Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Mir Saifullah while replying to the un-starred question of Dr Bashir Ahmed Veeri in the Upper House today said that out of the total 2,76,458 cases;  93,038 cases  were pending in the J&K High Court.  Out of these   87,794 are civil while 5244 criminal cases pending in the High Court.
Giving more details, Saifullah disclosed that in all the subordinate courts of the State a total 1,83,420 cases were pending and out of them; 1,06,740 are criminal while are 76680 civil cases.
Referring to the huge pendency of cases and urgent need of fast track courts, the minister said presently there are no fast track courts in the State except for the five existing regular courts of Additional District and sessions which were earmarked as Fast Track Courts by the High Court to deal with the cases against women including rape for the districts of Srinagar, Anantnag, Baramulla, Kulgam,  Pulwama, Kupwara, Jammu and Rajouri.
A proposal has been received from the High Court regarding creation of eight Fast Track Courts of the rank of District and Sessions Judge, and 10 Fast Track Courts of  the rank of Civil Judge Senior Division ( Sub Judge) and the matter was under active consideration of the Government.
In response to another question of Dr Veeri, the minister disclosed that the Government is committed to provide justice to masses at their door steps. 14 courts of Special Mobile Magistrate ( Sub Judge level)  and 22 courts of Additional Mobile Magistrate ( Munsiff Level) have been created. Under the purview of 13th Finance Commission. The Government is also contemplating to create 22 Dehi Adalats  in the State at least one in each district  that too, at Block level.
When asked whether there was any proposal to make Benches of the High Court in remote areas like Doda-Kishtwar, Leh-Kargil or Poonch-Rajouri, in view of the huge pendency, the minister said no such  proposal was under consideration of the Government.
