Tragic accident in Kargil sparks outcry for justice and reform

JAMMU, Apr 26: A tragic accident in Kargil has led to public outrage after 16-year-old student Basharat Ahmad was fatally struck by a JCB on Kargil TCP Road at Ando Colony.
Ahmad, a resident of Shamsha Kherboo, was on his way to school with a friend when the accident occurred early today. While his friend sustained minor injuries, Ahmad died at the scene.

Eyewitnesses reported that the JCB driver fled after the accident. The community’s frustration grew due to perceived delays in emergency and police responses. This prompted local protests demanding immediate action and accountability.
Community leaders, including former Sarpanch Pashkum Issa Ali and EC Zakir, were quick to respond. EC Zakir communicated with SP Kargil and DC Kargil, who promised strict actions against the driver and a review of the emergency response by officials.
The death of the young student has heightened calls for better road safety and improved emergency protocols in Kargil.
While local authorities tried to calm protesters, the community continues to demand justice and preventive measures to avoid future tragedies.
