JAMMU, Apr 29: In connection with the ongoing World Immunization Week, Department of Pediatrics, Government Medical College Jammu, in collaboration with Directorate of Family Welfare, MCH and Immunization Jammu; IAP State Branch J&K and WHO, held a seminar at SMGS Hospital, Jammu, here today.
Dr Ashutosh Gupta, Principal & Dean, Govt Medical College, Jammu was the chief guest of this event. While speaking on this occasion, he stressed upon the theme and importance of immunization to protect people of all ages from infectious diseases. He mentioned that Immunization campaigns have enabled us to eradicate smallpox, defeat polio, and ensure more children survive and thrive than ever before.
Head of Pediatrics Department, Professor Dr Ghanshyam Saini, exhorted the attending Pediatricians that they must make the parents aware of the vaccinations at every contact with the parents of the patients and extract the history of immunization.
Assistant Director, Family Welfare, MCH and Immunization Jammu, Dr Poonam Sethi said that the Department is having ample supply of all the listed vaccinations and the same are smoothly provided to all the designated vaccination centers. She also emphasized about the effective cold chain points and highlighted the utilization of new U- WIN app in smooth registration and storage of e data of vaccines given.
Dr Rajiv Gupta, Professor & Head Department of Community Medicine, highlighted the contribution of ASHA workers ANM/MPWs in identifying and providing vaccination to eligible babies and mothers. He also apprised the gathering about the new vaccines being introduced and their importance.
Dr Ravinder Gupta, Professor & HoD Pediatrics ASCOMS Jammu, who is also the president of Jammu city branch of IAP, emphasized about the contribution of IAP members in the awareness of vaccination. He also stressed upon the importance of vaccination in decreasing the under 5 mortality and IMR in the UT of J&K, which is 18.5 and 16.3 at present.
The other eminent personalities present on this occasion were, Dr Dara Singh, Medical Superintendent; Dr Rakesh Kumar Sharma, Dy Medical Superintendent SMGS Hospital, Jammu; Professors Pediatrics: Dr Sanjeev Kumar Digra, Dr Ashu Jamwal, Dr Sunil Dutt Sharma, Dr Mohd Razaq; Associate Professors Pediatrics; Dr. Anuj Bhatti, Dr Ravi Kumar Parihar and Dr Azmat from WHO & Rakesh Kumar State Mass Media Officer.
