Restriction imposed on flow of human excreta to Devika River

UDHAMPUR, June 28: District Magistrate, Pandurang K Pole today imposed restriction on opening/throwing of drains carrying human excreta by the households residing on both sides of Devika to this river of great religious importance.
This decision has been taken in view of growing contamination in the river water which can cause certain skin infection to those who throng the river to have a holy dip during various occasions like Makkar Sankrati.
The restrictions are subject to various conditions like the area of the operation of the order will be two kms upstream and two kms down stream and 500 mtrs on both sides of MH Chowk/Bridge on Davika. The households falling within the restricted area which are disposing off their human excreta directly or indirectly into Devika river shall construct their own septic tanks in their premises within fifteen days otherwise action will be initiated against them. The Executive Officer, MC Udhampur will conduct a survey of the households within the restricted area and prepare a report in respect of the households whose drains carrying human excreta are directly or indirectly opened to the Devika river and will submit the list of households which have not started the construction of septic tanks within 15 days of order. The Executive Officer, MC Udhampur will furnish a report to the police authorities for further necessary action after expiry of 15 days and the police authorities will implement the orders in letter and spirit.
This order comes into force with immediate effect and will remain in force for a period of two months unless rescinded earlier.
