Wisdom constitutes right line of thinking that leads to righteousness. It sanctifies. Wisdom enriches and enlightens our vision. It has to be developed and nurtured through constant care, self-discipline and self-purification. By remaining in the reckoning of the Almighty for the sake of placidity, we must invariably seek His benevolence for the perpetuity of prudence for He is the Omnipotent and the Repository of all the virtues.
Goswami Tulsidadass Ji says –
‘‘Jahan sumati tahan sampati nana, jahan kumati tahan vipatti nidhana’’
‘There grow bounties of virtues and fortunes where wisdom abodes. Where wickedness prevails, there surround beast- hood and sufferings.’
In most popularly chanted ‘hanuman chaleesa’ glorifying Him, it is said ‘‘mahaveer vikram bajrangi, kumati niwar sumati ke sangi’’.
‘Hanuman ji is un-matching warrior and robust like a rock who puts end to wickedness or devilish forces and restores wisdom’.
Similarly, Sant Kabir Sahab is his ‘Jnan goodri’ says-
‘‘Sumati ka sabun sirjin dhoi, kumati mael sab daro khoi’’.
‘The dirt of wickedness should be washed off by applying the soap of wisdom’.
The noble souls and scriptures in their teachings have laid great emphasis on cultivation of good qualities of head and heart. Faith, Love, compassion. humbleness, good conduct, just Actions and Noble Deeds. Holy men, scholars, idealists, artists and scientists through their dedication have been serving the mankind in their respective fields. Divinely illumined souls have been guiding the destinies of the mankind along right lines through moral and spiritual teachings. Scholars, idealists and artists are also the blessed souls who make enormous contribution by mass awakening, promoting cultures, carving ideologies and in establishing dignity of man. Equally blessed are the scientists and technologists who have been making amazing discoveries and inventions for the welfare of the society.
In an ideal family in which ‘sumati’ (good sense) prevails, there is mutual faith, love and understanding among its members. Sharing joys and sorrows, together they go to prayers, discuss problems openly and churn the best solutions, go to tasks with singing heart and display sense of sympathy and service towards sick and disabled members. Such a family is an epitome of goodness and a source of emulation for the society because there is peace, prosperity, plenty and well-bonded kinship among the members based on moral principles. Aged feel contented because they are cared and consulted. Members in their mid and bread winners are full of pride in themselves for they receive all the admiration they deserved. Young develop full personality with sense of responsibility and self-confidence.
Wickedness is equipped with lust, wrath, greed, attachment, ego and jealousy which can be subjugated by most powerful warriors of wisdom, namely, celibacy, intellectual stability and tolerance, contentment, detachment, humbleness and love.
A single stoke of ‘kumati’ (wickedness) by Manthra and ruptured the relations among nears and dears of the family, caused death of King Dasratha rendering all the three queens to widowhood and turned festivities and celebrations of Ajodhya into doom, distress and destitution. Similarly, the ‘kumati’ of Ravana, Kansa, Duryodhana and Dushashana brought catastrophes in which hundreds of millions of lives perished in the wars and famines. In the recent past only, Napoleon and Hitler alone were responsible for putting to death millions of lives which caused untold sufferings to those rendered handicapped, widowed and orphans. Therefore, wickedness ruins.
A family afflicted by ‘kumati’ (wickedness) is ruled by selfish-motives, estranged relationships and mutual distrust. Its members fall prey to irresponsibility, delusion and desperations. Instead of looking at and overcoming their own shortcomings, they scold and quarrel with their fate. Some of them take to crimes and addictions. Elderly and ailing die much early before their death is due or are turned out rendering them destitute due to lack of sympathy and consideration. Earning hands are selfish and silly. They take away lion’s share of their earnings for themselves in disregard to their commitments and obligations towards their dependants. Such people indulge in excessive sensual pleasures, gambling and addictions. Thus needs of other family members remain unmet particularly those of the children. Their young develop inferiority complex for they feel helpless, unwanted and dejected. Having been left in lurch, they fail to develop full personality.
Swami Gaibanand Ji Maharaj says –
‘‘Adarsh rakh muni sant ka, shukdutt ka sanakadi ka,
Ya Ram ka ya Krishan ka, Gandhi tatha Janakaadi ka,
Kutta, gadah, Bandar tatha shookar naqal kiun kare,
Seekh maan Gaibanand ka, tu Atam ka chintan kare.’’
‘Follow and be inspired either by any of the saints or seers or Shukdutt or Sanaksanandans or Rama or Krishna or Glandhi or Janaka. Imitate not the instincts of dog, donkey, monkey and pig. Swami Ji wishes that his teaching of day-and-night meditating-on-the -Self be heeded to.’
Lord ! pray, dignify and keep blessing this planet with noble souls like Gandhi Ji, Gurudev Tagore, Swami Vivekananda, Mother Teresa and Nelson Mandela.
