Peddler arrested, another booked under NDPS

Srinagar, May 6: A peddler was arrested while a drug smuggler was booked under the PIT NDPS Act in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, police said today.
Authorities stated that a police party from Police Post Wussan, led by IC PP Wussan, intercepted a person identified as Lateef Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin and resident of Waripora Tapper, at a checkpoint established at New Colony Wussan.
“During the search, 32 grams of charas, 1 gold ring, and a cash amount of Rs 250 were recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to PS Pattan where he remains in custody,” police stated.
In another case, police said they booked a notorious drug smuggler under the PIT NDPS Act in Baramulla after obtaining a formal detention order from the competent authority.
The drug smuggler has been identified as Bilal Ahmad Sheikh, son of Late Ghulam Hassan and resident of Zehanpora Boniyar.
“The booked drug smuggler has been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Bhalwal Jammu,” police informed.
Authorities noted that many cases are registered against the said drug smuggler and that he was involved in promoting the drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth of Uri, Kamalkote, Boniyar, and other areas of the district.
