JAMMU, Mar 9: To mark the equality and progress of women in the world, International Women’s Day was celebrated with enthusiasm.
International Women’s Day was celebrated by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) at Samba. The focus of the celebrations was “Women Empowerment through Self Help Groups”. Around 250 women SHG members and rural entrepreneurs promoted under NABARD’s SHG-Bank Linkage programme participated in this programme. The programme was inaugurated by the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Samba, Inderjit Bhagat in presence of Surinder Singh, District Development Manager of NABARD, BM Sharma, LDM, BK Goswami, District Manager J&K Bank, Upinder Sharma, SL Sharma, Rajesh Sharma, Raj Kumar Bhagat, Chandji Tickoo, Puran Chand, Ajit Paul and members of SHGs. The women members presented a number of cultural items, followed by a play “Ek Nanhi Cheekh” on female foeticide presented by the members of New Sargam Social and Culture Club. Sister Ancita from Kristu Jyoti Social Welfare Society presented vote of thanks.
International Women’s Day was celebrated at Group Centre Bantalab with the support of the Family Welfare Centre and Regional CRPF Wives Welfare Association (CWWA). All Jammu based CRPF units assembled at Group Centre Bantalab with their stalls for contributing to the women fair. Arunima Sinha, wife of Shantmanu Divisional Commissioner was the chief guest. A brief introduction about the International Women’s Day, women empowerment, their rights and various steps taken by the CWWA and FWC throughout the year for women welfare and awareness was presented by Rozy Dhar, President Sector CWWA, CRPF. Besides women fair and cultural part, women showed enthusiasm and sportsmanship spirit by participating willingly in different games like matka race, spoon and lemon race, musical chair and tug-of-war which was arranged by Sunita Bisht, Vice president CWWA. A medical camp was also organised by the Composite Hospital, CRPF which arranged free medical checkups for ladies. The chief guest distributed away the prizes to all participated to boost their moral.
Inner Wheel Club Jammu celebrated International Women’s Day at Rotary Bhawan, Gandhi Nagar. Kamal Sudan, President Inner Wheel Club welcomed the chief guest Prof Chaman Lal Gupta and Dr Irshad Himal, Vice Chancellor, BGSBU, Rajouri. Sunil Jain, President, Rotary Club honoured Pooja Malhotra, educationist, Dr Bela Mahajan, HoD, Micro-Biology, Government Medical College and Dr Anita Sharma, Commandant, Armed Police, Jammu.
International Women’s Day was celebrated by National Service Scheme (NSS) unit and Women Development Cell of Government College of Education Jammu in which hundreds of students besides staff of the College participated. Arunima Sinha, Secretary, J&K IAS Officers Wives Association was the chief guest whereas Dr Kaushal Samotra, Principal of the College presided over the function. Naseem Akhter and Babita Sharma DSPs of J&K Police and CRPF and Arshjot Johal Advocate J&K High Court Jammu shared the presidium as guests of honour. Prof Ashu Jolly, Programme Officer, NSS presented the welcome address. On the occasion a symposium on the topic “Importance of women and need to safeguard women’s rights” was organized in which Akanksha, Neha and Pankaj Sharma were adjudged as first, second and third respectively, whereas Sheetal Sudan and Darshan Sharma bagged consolation prizes. The speakers including Prof Jyoti Parihar, Prof Raj Singh and Prof Rubina Yasmeen made a strong plea for protection of women’s rights in present scenario. Gohar Hafeez Fani general secretary VOICE conducted the proceedings, whereas Prof Rajinder Kour presented vote of thanks.
Shri Guru Gangdev Ji (SGGJ) Model School Shiv Kashi Sunderbani celebrated International Women’s Day. On the occasion, school authorities honoured 25 students and distributed prizes among them for their outstanding performance in the field of education. While speaking, MK Bhan, Director/Principal threw light on the historical background of the day.
