Head Constable found shot dead in Police Station

UDHAMPUR, May 9: Under mysterious circumstances, a Police Head Constable was found shot dead in his room inside the complex of Police Station Latti, here today.
According to the officials, the incident took place around 12 noon and the deceased was identified as Head Constable Ranjeet Singh, son of Shankar Singh, resident of village Madha in Chenani, presently posted at Police Station Latti. He had sustained a bullet injury on his head, apparently fired with SLR rifle.
According to SSP Udhampur, Joginder Singh, it was not yet clear whether the Head Constable committed suicide or was shot dead by someone else. “We are investigating the matter and nothing can be said at this stage,” he said, adding that a case under Section 174 CrPC has been registered in this connection.
Reports said that colleagues of the Head Constable heard the sound of gunshot following which they rushed to the spot and found the deceased lying in a pool of blood. The matter was immediately brought into the notice of senior officers who also reached there and evacuated the Head Constable to PHC Latti where doctors declared him as brought dead.
After completion of all the formalities and postmortem, the body was handed over to family members of the deceased.
