Massive searches in Khoshipora forests; pistol, 2 grenades recovered

SRINAGAR, Mar 9: Army today conducted massive searches in Khoshipora forests of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district after an Army Colonel of counter insurgency Kilo Force had close shave last night in a militant attack.
The cordon in Khoshipora forests was laid soon after the attack on an Army officer in which Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) hurled grenades and fired indiscriminately on his vehicle when he was returning from company headquarter of his unit that is deep inside forests.
The Rakhshak vehicle of the Colonel received bullets but the Army officer survived the militant bid on his life. The Army fired back and militants fled under the cover of darkness, taking advantage of forest area.
Army’s 32 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), 30 RR and Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted searches of the Khoshipora forests for the whole day amid heavy rains in the area. They conducted searches in 5 kilometre forest area.
The Army and police recovered one Pistol and two grenades from the forests but could not trace the militants responsible for the attack on the Army officer.
The search operation was called off in the evening due to freak weather and continuous rains.
It may be mentioned here JeM had claimed responsibility for the attack on Army.
