SRINAGAR, May 11: Chairman, Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) and former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, while recounting his tenure in J&K, today said that those who are now speaking about Article 370 remained silent when it was abrogated in 2019.
Talking to media persons after a roadshow in Ganderbal district ahead of the Lok Sabha polls scheduled for May 13, Azad said that every election presents its challenges, and his newly formed party is prepared to face whatever comes its way.

“Whatever I could do, I did in Parliament; but there are some people who were silent back then and are now speaking about the issue; it was I who raised the issue of the abrogation of Article 370 in Parliament,” he said.
Speaking about Ganderbal district, Azad mentioned that he established it as a district during his tenure as Chief Minister and ensured the construction of a District Hospital, Degree College, and executed several other important projects. “Most of the works I initiated during my tenure were executed here,” he said.
On the issues he is presenting to the people ahead of the polls, Azad mentioned that two types of parties are contesting the elections, national as well as regional, and both are aiming for different objectives.
“The major national parties aim to form the Government, while the regional parties, in this case, the parties from J&K, are representing the sentiments of the people on the abrogation of Article 370; advocating for the restoration of Statehood and the protection guaranteed through Article 35-A; in addition to this, we are also addressing the issue of unemployment,” he said.
Responding to a question regarding the possibility of his party’s success in the elections, Azad said, “Anything can happen in politics; who would have known that Kejriwal would resign from his government job, form a party, and become Chief Minister; today his party also governs in Punjab.”
Earlier, while addressing people during a roadshow in the Brien Nishat area, he outlined his achievements as Chief Minister, including the establishment of the Tulip Garden, Hajj House, Assembly Complex, and the construction of thousands of schools and colleges.
