Cyber Cell thwarts over Rs 1.48 lakh online frauds

JAMMU, May 11: The Cyber Cell of Jammu and Kashmir Police here has successfully resolved three distinct cases of online financial fraud.
In one case, a complainant fell victim to a deceptive text message, resulting in unauthorised access to his mobile device and subsequent debiting of Rs 60,000 from his account.
In another case, the complainant was lured by an investment opportunity shared by Telegram. Despite investing Rs 60,000, when seeking reimbursement, the fraudster coerced further investments, ultimately revealing the scheme’s deceitful nature.
Additionally, a complaint involving a financial loss of Rs 36,700 was investigated. The victim’s phone was stolen, and the perpetrator bypassed security measures to conduct unauthorized transactions from the victim’s account.
The diligent efforts of the Cyber Cell DPO Jammu yielded commendable results, with Rs 1, 48, 500 out of the total sum of Rs. 1, 56, 700 being temporarily withheld pending further investigation.
