JAMMU, May 12: After Pernote in Ramban, land subsidence has occurred in a Chenani village of Udhampur district, triggering panic among the locals.
SDM Chenani, Gurdev Kumar told the Excelsior that at least three houses in Halki Suiyan village of Panchayat Tandar have developed cracks due to land subsidence following which an alert has been sounded.
Though, no family has yet been shifted, we have kept our teams on alert for evacuation or any emergency measures in case need for the same arises,” he said, adding that he would personally visit the area tomorrow for assessing the latest situation.

Cause of land sinking is yet to be ascertained. Pertinent to mention that similar land subsidence had occurred in the area a decade back. Spread in approximately 30 kanal residential area, village Halki Suiyan has around 20 houses.
The fresh occurrence of land subsidence in the area has triggered a panic wave among the villagers, who are worried about their safety and appealed the Government administration for emergency measures.
As already reported a fortnight earlier, more than 500 people were relocated to safer places after over 58 houses were completely damaged due to land sinking in Pernote village of Ramban.
