JAMMU, Mar 10: Sahitya Akademi New Delhi, the national body for literature, today announced annual translation awards-2013, at New Delhi, here today.
The national award for translation in Dogri has been bagged by Prof Veena Gupta for ‘Kalkatte Di Kahni Via Bypass’, a translation of Alka Sraogi’s well known Hindi novel ‘Kali Katha Via Bypass by Alka Sravgi’ while Aziz Hajini, has been awarded in Kashmiri for ‘Ze Gaz Zammen’, a translation of Abdus Samad’s famous Urdu novel ‘Do Gaz Zameen’.
The award for translation called as Sahitya Akademi Anuvad Puruskar, carries a cash prize of rupees 50, 000 and a citation shall be given to recipients away in near future.
Talking to EXCELSIOR Prof Veena Gupta, the winner of translation award-2013, expressing her happiness over the honour given by national academy, said that translations are the need of the hour to enlarge the ambit of Dogri readers as well as leadership.
Prof Gupta, former Professor, HoD Deptt. of Dogri, Dean Faculty of Arts and Dean Faculty of Oriental Learning University of Jammu, is a silent sentinel of Dogri and working for the cause of mother since more than 30 years. Post Graduate, Ph.D., P.G. Diploma in Linguistics, Honours in Dogri, she is former Convener of Dogri Advisory Board in Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi. She has published 15 books published on linguistics, grammar literary criticism etc and edited more than 30 books on different literary genres, translatology folklore-studies, linguistics etc. Besides having edited 80 numbers of “Nami Chetna”, a quarterly literary journal in addition to this more than 80 research papers have been published in various national and other publications.
She has been felicitated by various national and regional organizations and awarded by Kurukshetra University for achieving first position in pg Diploma course in linguistics, State Award for the year 2010 for Dogri literature. She is General Secretary, Dogri Sanstha Jammu since 1993.
