JAMMU, May 13: The Kashmiri migrants expressed their anguish over depriving the right to vote in the Srinagar Parliamentary constituency, held here today.
In a statement issued, Ramesh Chander Mahajan (Kashmiri Migrant leader) on behalf of Kashmiri migrants expressed resentment over the migrant election department deprived their constitutional right to cast their franchise during the Srinagar Parliamentary constituency.
“The department continued its pervious approach for the migrants, who have filled the M-Form, to become eligible for the voting rights, but their names were missing from the migrants’ election department’s uploaded list,” he alleged.
“This is very unfortunate that the department is deliberately again placing the barrier of M- form for the Kashmiri Migrants to cast our vote in the Parliamentary constituency of Srinagar and not allowing our names in Election Commission India’s (ECI) list of 2024 electoral roll, is injustice with us,” he said.
“This is our basic demand that the department should allow EPIC holder Kashmiri Migrants to cast their franchise through physical voting system of (EVM) at their respective places. It is a genuine appeal of all the Kashmiri migrants with high hope and expectation from migrant election department, so that such hindrance would not repeated in the smooth process for election in the upcoming two Baramulla and Anantnag parliamentary constituencies,” he added.
