KATHUA, May 15: Punjabi Sahitya Manch, Kathua discussed the important issues related to the reorganization of the Manch, Kathua and also to work for the welfare of Punjabi language, literature and culture particularly in Kathua district.
Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, former Additional Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages presided over the meeting held in this connection while Nirmaljit Singh, Chairman, Kartar Public School was the special invitee.
Principal Hazoora Singh, prominent Punjabi poet, writer and former president, PSM, Kathua, while giving his introductory remarks said that Punjabi Sahitya Manch, Kathua was established five decades before and carried forward the activities related to Punjabi language, literature and culture but since last few years, it was not active because of delay in election of the PSM, which caused great loss to the Punjabi language and literature. He requested the members present in the meeting to nominate new body so that the process of reorganization of Manch may be initiated without any further delay.
During meeting several members were unanimously elected which include- Prof Hajura Singh ( New president), Master Gurnam Singh (General secretary), Navjot Singh Sidhu (Senior vice president), Kamaljeet Singh (Vice president), Prof Balwinder Kour (Joint secretary), Lakhwinder Singh Bumpy (Cashier) Dr Gurpreet Kour (Press and publicity secretary), while, Dr Usha Monga, Kuldeep Kippi and Vijay Kumar were nominated as Executive members of the Manch.
Nirmaljit Singh, Chairman, Kartar Public School, Barnoti congratulated the new office bearers and desired that the new team will activate to promote Punjabi language and organize monthly activities. He hoped that Punjabi Sahitya Manch Kathua will involve all writers without any distinction of religion, caste, colour and creed along with DGPC, Kathua.
A two- minute silence was also observed as tribute to Padam Shri Surjit Patar, renowned Punjabi writer and Harpal Singh Rattan ex-President of PSM, Kathua.
