JAMMU, Mar 11: Dr T. R. Raina, Administrator Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission Charitable Hospital, Ambphala Jammu & former Professor Head Department of Blood Transfusion Govt. Medical College Jammu has been nominated by the Government of India as member of Expert Group on Voluntary Blood Donation at the national level.
The Expert Group consists of eight members from across the country under the chairmanship of Sudershan Aggarwal, former Governor of Uttarakhand.
The terms of reference of the committee shall be to develope National & State level strategies & time bound plan to achieve 90 % Voluntary Blood Donation in the country by the year 2017 by phasing out blood donation on replacement basis & promotimg VBD & also to devise a coordination mechanism between Blood Donors, Donor Motivators, Camp Organisers & Blood Banks & to prepare the guidelines for donor safety and blood donation camps.
Dr Raina already stands nominated as Member of National Blood Transfusion Council (NBTC) by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Government of India. He is also the Secretary General of Governing Body of Indian Society of Blood Transfusion & Immunoha-matology (ISBTI) at the national level.
The first meeting of the Expert Group on VBD will be held at New Delhi on March 14.
