SRINAGAR, May 16: Two infiltrating militants were killed as the Army foiled a major infiltration bid in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district today.
An official said that security forces gunned down two intruders who were trying to sneak in. The security forces challenged them to return, however they refused, resulting in exchange of fire leading to killing of two infiltrators.

The official said that two bodies were seen lying on the other side of the fence but could not be retrieved.
The official said that a group of 4-5 infiltrators tried to sneak in during the night and were challenged by the alert troops near the LoC fence in Tangdhar sector. He said that they opened fire on troops leading to a gun battle and in the morning two dead bodies of militants were seen lying on the side of the fence. He said that these bodies could not be retrieved and the other militants probably managed to flee back. He, however, said that the search operation in the area is going on.
In the meantime, a militant associate was arrested and a cache of arms and ammunition was recovered in a successful operation carried out by the joint security forces in Kupwara district today.
An official said that based on specific information, a joint operation by Kupwara Police, Army’s 3 Naga and 97 Battalion BSF led to the arrest of a militant associate, Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, son of Abdul Rahman Lone of Patru Keran.
He said that after the disclosure of the apprehended person, arms and ammunition, to carry out terrorist activities during the forthcoming elections, were recovered from his possession.
The official said that they recovered two pistols, two pistol magazines, two hand grenades, 10 and 9 mm 54 rounds, from Mushtaq who was apprehended during a naka checking at Lone Harie area of Kupwara, falling in the jurisdiction of Kralpora Police Station.
“We won’t let nefarious designs, who have always aspired to disturb the peace and tranquillity, succeed in their mission,” the police official said. “We are committed to ensuring peaceful elections.”
“A case in this regard has been registered in Police Station Kralpora and an investigation has been taken up,” the official added.
