JAMMU, May 17: A crucial meeting was held at the office of JAK ex-Servicemen Cooperative Store Ltd today.
As per a statement, the meeting was attended by key figures including Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, AVSM, MLC (Retd), Chairman of the cooperative; Col Kulbir Singh, Managing Director; Brig (Dr) Vijay Sagar Dheman, Special Invitee; and officials from the Cooperative Societies Department.
The meeting discussed that the JAK ex-Servicemen Cooperative Store, established as a welfare initiative for soldier’s widows, disabled soldiers, and ex-servicemen, was a profitable entity until policy changes in 1999 led to its decline.
It said that Maj Gen Jamwal has spent the past 20 years striving to revive the unit, and recent efforts have finally seen progress with Government support.
Jamwal expressed his gratitude to the officers of the J&K Government for their support in this revival effort.
He specifically thanked Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, and Secretary Cooperatives Babila Rakwal for their roles in kick-starting the process, which had been stalled for two decades.
The Chairman is hopeful that the Government will take all necessary steps within its rules and regulations to restore the unit, providing renewed opportunities for ex-servicemen and their widows to thrive in a ‘Viksit Bharat.’
