JAMMU, May 19: The Taushi Branch of Bharat Vikas Parishad (BVP) organized a Basic Life Support Workshop in collaboration with Narayana Hospitals Katra at Baby Caterers Banquet Hall, Rehari Colony (Jammu) for its members and citizens of Jammu.
The workshop was conducted by Dr Suhail Murtza Nazqi (Senior Consultant and HoD Emergency Medicine), Shri Mata Vaishnodevi Narayana Super Specialty Hospital, Katra.
During the workshop, the participants were familiarized with the steps to be taken, in case a person suddenly falls unconscious, till the time that medical help can be provided to him. Disclosing the various aspects to be considered, Dr Nazqi appraised the participants how to determine the status of the unconscious person and emphasized that, while calling for immediate medical help the exact location of the person needing help should be communicated clearly and precisely.
Elaborating upon the steps to be taken in case of patients who may have suffered cardiac arrest, he emphasized the critical importance of making vigorous efforts, to revive the patient within 4 minutes of the occurrence, to avoid permanent damage to his brain.
He explained in detail, with the help of diagrams and mannequins, various techniques for Cardio- Pulmonary Resuscitation, more commonly termed as CAB where ‘C’ stands for Circulation, i.e. techniques for restoring blood circulation by the heart; ‘A’ stands for Airways i.e. opening of the air passage or windpipe, if blocked by the tongue; and, ‘B’ stands for Breathing i.e. giving of mouth to mouth breathing, for which pocket masks can also be used for safety.
Earlier, welcoming the participants, Ajay Khajuria (president, Taushi Branch of BVP) underlined the need for acquiring such knowledge by all citizens so that increasing number of such emergencies can be addressed on spot, thus helping in saving lives.
The program was coordinated by Kuldesh Sharma (Sewa Pramukh of Taushi Branch) and the proceedings were conducted by Professor Ajay Khajuria (treasurer of Taushi Branch).
