The youth started bathing in the dam to beat the heat. Suddenly he slipped down in deep water and was drifted by strong current.
A young girl accompanying him tried to rescue the youth but she also slipped into deep waters and both of them drowned in the water.
Another girl accompanying them raised the alarm and called the nearby people for help. The local youth started rescue operation, but it was too late, and duo was found dead in the Dam.
Their bodies were fished out of water later. A police team also rushed to the spot and verified the crime scene. The youth was identified as Om Parkesh, 25, son of Neelam Kumar resident of Pikad, Basohli and girl was identified as Bandhu, 19, daughter of Daleep Kumar resident of Lundhi, Bani. The police handed over the bodies to their family members for last rites.
It may be recalled that the Purthu is seen to be one of dangerous tourist destinations. As such incidents took place previously at this place and precious lives were lost while taking the bath. Despite such regular incidents, the administration did not bother to appoint SDRF team or local divers to rescue the drowned people well in time to save precious lives. The local people demanded appointment of rescue team permanently.
