CS reviews SSA, Mid-Day Meal schemes

JAMMU, Mar 13: Chief Secretary, Mohammad Iqbal Khandey today reviewed the implementation of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Mid-Day Meal schemes in schools.
Chief Secretary while receiving detailed brief regarding the achievements registered under both the schemes noted that substantial progress has been made to boost universalization of elementary education at both the primary school and upper primary school level in the State.
He called for devising a uniform and efficient system for distribution of food grains/cooking gas to all schools across the State by the CA&PD besides ensuring that supplies are provided to the school through the nearest CA&PD outlet.
Chief Secretary also called for ensuring regular health checkup of students in all schools under the School Health Programme to address health and nutrition needs of children. Besides, he asked the PHE Department to extend drinking water facilities to all newly opened schools serving mid-day meals.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Planning and Development, B. R Sharma, Commissioner Secretary PHE, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Commissioner Secretary Rural Development, Farooq Ahmed Peer, Secretary School Education, Hirdesh Kumar, Secretary CA&PD, Baseer Ahmad Khan and other senior officers.
