Srinagar, May 24: While the general public promptly faces disconnection for unpaid bills by the KPDCL, the Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) seems to be enjoying special treatment despite being a defaulter.
The SDA, even as it earns crores every month, has not bothered to pay its power dues for the last several months, which have now swelled to over Rs 31 lakh.
According to the details, the bill for March of this year, generated on April 10, was noted as Rs 13,000, while the total due amount was shown as Rs 31,15,308.
The bill, with the installation number 0205040011111, has been addressed to the SDA’s cafeteria situated at Gagangeer in Ganderbal district.
The bill has an opening balance of Rs 31,02,308, suggesting that the SDA has not bothered to pay the outstanding amount for the last several months.
Despite this, the power supply is being provided without interruption, unlike what commoners face in case of unpaid bills.
The officials of the KDPCL in the district refused to comment on the matter, including why they did not disconnect the power connection and how they allowed the bill to swell to Rs 31 lakh. They said that they will revert with details.
It is to be noted here that the KPDCL has been quite active in terms of revenue realization, frequently disconnecting the power connections of domestic consumers with outstanding dues.
However, when it comes to the government departments, such as the SDA in this case, the KPDCL has preferred to look the other way, resorting to inaction despite huge outstanding amounts.
