Official sources told Excelsior that embarking on a journey of innovation and excellence, the Hospital Emergency Codes System has been installed in GMCH Jammu. They said that a control room has been set up under this system where trained staff will be deployed to keep an eagle’s eye on the entire hospital.
“Medical emergencies are part and parcel of any hospital setting. Most hospital caregivers are trained to act quickly during a medical emergency and thus preventing the health of the patient from worsening any further. However, sometimes the patient’s condition may take a turn for the worse, without any warning, requiring immediate medical attention. In such situations, medical emergency codes are used to convey essential information quickly. Hospital emergency codes help to provide medical care and support to affected patient and incident victims while maintaining care and safety of other patients, employees and visitors within a healthcare facility during an emergency event or incident,” they added.
They said at the heart of this transformative system lies an array of cutting-edge features designed to ensure the safety and well-being of patients, staff, and visitors alike. The integration of an audio-addressing system and a siren alert mechanism equips the entire hospital with the means to swiftly communicate and mobilize resources in the event of emergencies falling under the Hospital Emergency Codes protocol.
“In batches, the staff of the Hospital is being trained to operate and understand this system so that they can act promptly without any confusion in case of any emergency/incident,” they said, adding, following rigorous pilot testing and meticulous mock drills, the Hospital Emergency Codes system will be unveiled very soon.
Sources said that the introduction of this state-of-the-art system not only underscores GMCH’s dedication to upholding the highest standards of patient care but also reflects its unwavering commitment to innovation and progress in the field of healthcare. They said by embracing Hospital Emergency Codes, GMCH has fortified its position as a beacon of excellence, poised to serve as a model for hospitals nationwide.
When contacted, Principal GMCH Jammu, Dr Ashutosh Gupta said that Medical Emergency Codes System helps to disseminate essential life-saving information quickly to the hospital staff and that too in a coded language so that panic among visitors or other patients in hospital can be avoided. For example, code red means fire emergency. He said the goal of these codes is to provide precise emergency notification to staff, which is then immediately followed by a coordinated response.
“Clear communication is of utmost necessity to provide high-quality patient care and to support a safe environment for patients, visitors and hospital staff and introduction of Hospital Emergency Codes System is a significant step in this direction,” Dr Gupta added.
