SAMBA, May 24: After illegal mining of sand and Bajri in Samba, now illegal mining of soil has also started.
Sharing this information in a press conference on Friday, former Sarpanch of Pangdour Panchayat in Samba, Reena Choudhary said that illegal mining of soil is continuously taking place for the last few days in Pangdour Panchayat, about which complaint was made to the police, Mining Department as well as District Development Commissioner, Samba, Abhishek Sharma, but no one has taken any action.
She said no action has been taken due to which there is a lot of anger among the local people. “Even before this, we had raised our voice against illegal mining and had also stopped the work of the crusher being installed in the Basantar river’’. “Illegal miners in the Basantar river have given the river the form of a ravine and have dug out huge deep pits in it, due to which many bore wells on the banks of the river have dried up and many are on the verge of drying up,’’ she added.
She said that there is no number plate installed on all the tractors and as soon as this information was given to the police, the work was stopped. This proves that somewhere there is definitely complicity of the police and related departments. She has asked higher officials to take cognizance of this. She also urged the Traffic Department and ARTO Samba to conduct a detailed investigation of these tractors to find out how they are roaming freely on the road, violating traffic rules.
She raised questions on the Soil Conservation Department and said that their job is to conserve the land, but their officers are not visible.
