JAMMU, Mar 14: Under the Civic Action Programme (CAP), Mahila Police Battalion (IRP 15th Bn) today organized an impressive function at its Headquarters to distribute the assistance among the destitute and needy, especially those hailing from border areas and living below poverty line.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) IRP, Jammu, Vijay Singh Sambyal was chief guest on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Sambyal said that widows and orphans are part of our society and they have every right to live a dignified life. He urged various sections of the society to lend a helping hand to the distressed class and help in whatever form to uplift them.
Highlighting the importance of such programmes, Mr. Sambyal said that the events prove useful in strengthening the bonds between police and public through our contribution in ensuring the upliftment of weaker sections of the society. This also inspire the jawans towards their social duties, he added
The DIG lauded the role of Mahila Battalion for arranging such a function for providing assistance to the deserving lot. He said the Jammu and Kashmir Police has been providing succour to the people at the times of natural calamities and extending other welfare measures to the down trodden sections of the society. He stressed upon the jawans and officers to contribute generously for the welfare of the poor sections of the society.
On the occasion, the DIG handed over assistance comprising household items among the 40 deserving widows.
The Commandant of Mahila Battalion, Anita Sharma assured them to carry out such programmes in future for strengthening the police-public relations.
Among others, the function was attended by prominent citizens, police officers and their families.
