JAMMU, May 25: In a decisive move to combat bovine smuggling in Jammu District, SSP Jammu Dr Vinod Kumar has written to the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Jammu, detailing the involvement of specific vehicles in this illegal activity.
The letter highlighted the proactive measures taken by police authorities to address this persistent issue.
Despite the police’s efforts to curb this trade by booking smugglers under relevant laws and continuously seizing vehicles used for bovine transportation, a concerning trend has emerged, said the SSP in his letter addressed to RTO Jammu.
According to him, the drivers of the seized vehicles, after obtaining bail or surety bonds, secure release orders from the courts and resume their illegal activities.
To counteract this, Jammu Police has identified 58 vehicles repeatedly involved in bovine smuggling, he said.
The letter to the RTO has requested the suspension or cancellation of the registration certificates of these vehicles to prevent their further use in illegal activities.
This decisive step aimed to strengthen enforcement against bovine smuggling and ensure that vehicles previously used for such activities are permanently removed from circulation.
