Youth killed in Bandipora, DC orders inquiry

SRINAGAR, Mar 14: A youth was killed in security forces firing in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district and the Deputy Commissioner Bandipora has ordered a Magisterial inquiry into the incident.
A police spokesman said here that this evening an unruly mob in Naidkhai area of Sumbal in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district attacked a security personnel vehicle and tried to set it ablaze.
“Security personnel boarding in the vehicle fired in air to disperse the mob in which one person got injured. The injured person was identified as Farhat Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Rasool resident of Shahgund, Sumbal who died on way to the hospital. Appropriate action is being taken into the matter”, the spokesman added.
Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Dr Shah Faisal, told Excelsior that he has ordered a Magisterial inquiry into the incident. He said that there were protests in the Naidkhai after Friday prayers when security forces fired. “This area has witnessed protests after Friday prayers for long time now”, he added.
“I appeal people to maintain peace and calm in the area. Whosoever is found guilty will not be spared. An FIR has been lodged in the incident”, the DC said.
Reports said that after Friday prayers in Naidkhai area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district people started marching towards IRP camp in protest. Police was already deployed to prevent any law and order problem. However, some youth started pelting stones on police and they tried to disperse the protesters by firing several teargas shells.
Reports said that a security forces vehicle was attacked by youth with stones in the evening in the area and they fired resulting in the injuries to two youth and one of them later succumbed.
As the news spread in the area people including women took to streets and protested against the killing. People also came out in Pattan and Palhalan area and pelted stones on police and passing vehicles.
An official in the district Administration Srinagar told Excelsior that as a precautionary measure there will be restrictions in old city area of Srinagar tomorrow.
