JAMMU, May 26: J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages along with Viraj Kala Kendra, Jammu here today staged a play based on the life history and achievements of freedom fighter of Jammu, Comrade Dhanwantri.
The play was written and directed in Dogri by renowned dramatist Rajneesh Kumar Gupta. Dhanwantri sacrificed his life to attain freedom from the British. He was the associate of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Chander Shekhar Azad and spent many years at Kala Pani Jail.
He was the writer of book ‘Bleeding Punjab Warns’ along with P.C Joshi and he died at the age of 51 but did a lot of work for the welfare of mankind.
The play was a result of a detailed research on Dhanwantari and it was a most successful outcome. Artists who performed in the play were Mukesh Bakshu, Madan Rangila, Tarun Charak, Rekha Sharma, Vinay Dagar, Meera Tapasvi, Savita Khajuria, Neeraj Sethi, Shiv Vohra, Sudesh Kumar, Gourav Largan, Rahul, Haqiqat Singh and Rajiv Kumar.
Rajneesh Kumar Gupta performed as anchor.
Ravinder Sharma handled lights; Yuvraj Gupta, music; Harshita Gupta, Ritvik Gupta and Sanvi Gupta arranged properties.
Ranjeet Kour, State Taxes Officer was chief guest on the occasion and she said that we live today in independent India only because of the great freedom fighters of the past.
The programme was concluded by Sudhir Mahajan, Senior Drama Instructor.
